Discussion of the Doctoral Dissertation Titled “Systems Management in Architecture”

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, the doctoral dissertation of Ahmed Hamid Kazem, titled “Systems Management in Architecture,” was discussed.

The dissertation explores the concept of systems management in architecture by analyzing the relationship between latent and apparent systems in both design and administrative processes. It highlights the significance of an integrated management approach to architectural systems, demonstrating how administrative thinking can enhance design quality by developing an effective management methodology that improves design efficiency. The research also examines the interplay between cultural, social, and administrative values in architecture at both explicit and implicit levels.

The study focuses on developing a comprehensive model for architectural systems management, structured across three key levels:

  1. Conceptual Model
  2. Organizational Model
  3. Applied Model

This framework aims to enhance architectural efficiency and improve design outcomes.

The research presents a flexible management model that enables architects to harmonize creative aspects with functional requirements in projects. By integrating intellectual and organizational systems, the model enhances architectural quality and optimizes design processes, making it applicable across various temporal and spatial contexts.

The study provides recommendations for multiple entities, including academic institutions, consulting offices, the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate, and government agencies. These recommendations aim to enhance professional architectural practices in Iraq at both theoretical and practical levels.
